I’m beginning to suspect that Shipward is not actually a computer.

Due to my naturally superior judgment of character and some expert sleuthing, I’ve detected some non-algorithmic behavior in his responses to simple questions, such as “What is the prime directive?” and “Who’s your daddy?” I’ve sensed some organic behavior in the pregnant pauses that precede his responses. Possibly some subversive thoughts–indeed, a Captain’s intuition can even penetrate the minds of his subordinates! Anyway, I’ll request a full diagnostic of Shipward’s mainframe first thing in the morning. And also, when he least expects it, I’ll try telling him a joke.

I’ll out this computer impersonator yet!! Actually, what do you call a being who is impersonating a computer? An incomputerator? I’ll be here all night. What was that? I think there is a space mouse in my quarters!
